No new cases of COVID-19; 12 more recovered

Alaska has no new cases of COVID-19 reported on Friday and 12 more recovered cases. The state’s total number of cases is 355 with 252 of them recovered. There have been no new hospitalizations of patients with COVID-19 since April 15th and no new deaths caused by the disease since April 12th. To date, 36 Alaskans were hospitalized with the virus and 9 Alaskans died from the disease. The Alaska Department of Health and Social Services posted the new numbers on its web site today before noon, as it has every day since shortly after the first case of the coronavirus was found in the state.

“This is the second day in a week with no reported cases, which is encouraging news,” said Dr. Anne Zink, Alaska’s chief medical officer in a press release late today. “I urge all Alaskans to keep this trend going as we reopen Alaska by continuing with the personal protective measures of handwashing, wearing face coverings and keeping six feet of distance from others in public, and getting tested if you feel sick,” she said.

There were no reported cases on Saturday, April 25th, however, the state reports case data that was collected from 12:00 a.m. until 11:59 p.m. the previous day. The cases that were confirmed on Saturday were reported in Sunday’s numbers.

To date, 19,562 COVID-19 tests have been administered in the state. For the second day this week, Governor Mike Dunleavy did not hold his nightly press conference and Wednesday night’s press conference was brief — another sign that Alaska may be healing from the disease as it is slowly reopening.
